The Infotel team is gearing up for the 2023 IDUG North American Db2® Tech Conference in Philadelphia this month, and we couldn’t be more excited to gather with some of the best mainframe minds on the continent for this event.

IDUG conferences are some of our most anticipated events of the year, and this year’s North American conference is no exception. As a global company, Infotel makes it a priority to attend both IDUG North America and IDUG EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) and we love these opportunities to meet with our peers and leaders in the industry to talk about trends and challenges facing today’s Db2 professionals.

One topic that is sure to be discussed is IBM’s February announcement of their z/OS® 3.1 to be released in Q3 of this year. Previews of the operating system indicate the update will be a big change from V2.5 with an emphasis on “infusing” AI into the platform, and an all-in approach to the hybrid-cloud strategy which IBM says is the way of “next generation of computing.”

We’re excited to see the material impact of v 3.1 on the business world, and as others in the industry are saying, we think IBM’s investment in z/OS shows the business case for the mainframe is as strong as ever with cloud, not despite it.

Infotel is again a proud sponsor this year and will be hosting a PSP (partner-sponsored presentation) with our long-time collaborator and leading Db2 expert Craig S. Mullins. On theme with IBM’s 3.1 announcement, Craig will be discussing automation with his presentation titled, “Intelligent Automation of Db2 Administration and Management.”

It’s no secret – today’s DBAs are overwhelmed with more database types to support, more database instances to support, more applications to support, and an avalanche of more data to manage than ever before. Craig’s presentation will speak directly to the DBAs who are tasked with managing the increasing demands of supporting a wider range of database types, instances, and applications, as well as handling the massive influx of data.

Infotel has been partnering with Craig for years for presentations at industry conferences and webinars, and there are few people on earth who can match his experience, expertise, and enthusiasm on Db2. With over 30 years of experience on the platform, he certainly knows his stuff, and he has three best-selling books and several industry accolades to back him up. We’re lucky to partner with him, and we’re looking forward to our PSP NA at IDUG this year!

Db2 Automation Use Case

As part of the presentation, Infotel’s senior technical manager Thierry Hubert will join Craig to demonstrate how our iDBA-Online solution helped one client simplify their administration,  reduce costs, and increase efficiency. With iDBA’s AI-enhanced Db2 maintenance automation, this client saw a significant drop in the number of utilities in use (about 30% or less) and improved application performance with a 10% reduction in CPU consumption.

Craig and Thierry will be discussing these topics and more at IDUG, and both will be available after their presentation to answer any questions about the presentation or Infotel’s suite of mainframe optimization and automation products. If you’re attending IDUG this year, don’t forget to stop by the Infotel booth (#8) to say hello to our team! Craig will be at the booth to provide Infotel-sponsored consulting on 5/17 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
